Driver’s License Conversion

Driver’s License Conversion is facilitated from the:  

Land Transportation Office (LTO), LTO Main Compound, East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City 

DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS:

• Original Passport 

• Photocopy of passport bio-page with signature, page with stamped visa. 

• Foreign License and Photocopy of the license (front and back). 

If documents are in a language other than English, an official translation must be done before-hand by Embassy or an Embassy-Accredited agency. 

• Certificate of Employment. 

• Copy of your Alien Employment Permit (AEP). 

• A valid 9G visa and ACR-I Card or a PEZA Visa. 

•Total cost of application: Php 1,535.00 

Mobility & Transportation

Driving conditions in Manila: 

  • Road conditions in Metro Manila are generally good.  
  • Shortage of road signs especially outside the business and financial districts.  
  • Rush hours are before 9:00 AM and after 4:00 PM. 
  • You will encounter heavy traffic at any time of the day, especially if it rains as well as flooding in some areas.  
  • Allot 45 minutes to an hour of travel to your destination.
  • Following traffic rules assures you to be safe. 
  • Practice defensive driving and be careful. 

Regulations and Enforcements: 

  • Seatbelts mandatorily required for all drivers and front seat passengers
  • Child car seats are not required by law but we strongly suggest them. 
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or any drug is strongly penalized by Filipino law.   
  • Speed limits and all traffic rules are strongly enforced. Tickets will be issued to violators and may be settled through accredited banks of the LTO. 

Types of Transportation Available:

  • Local public transportation – jeepneys, taxi cabs, tricycles, pedicabs, and train.
  • More modern transportation available:
    • GrabCar or GrabTaxi – the equivalent of Uber in the Southeast Asian Region
    • Metro Rail Transit (MRT) System
    • Light Rail Transit (LRT) System
  • Car rentals are also available for newcomers or for those who wish to rent rather than purchase a vehicle.
  • Driver’s License
    • Use of international / foreign driver’s license for a maximum of 90 days from arrival
    • One can apply for a local driver’s license provided your current work visa has a minimum validity of one (1) year from date of application.
  • Number coding scheme in major cities to manage traffic road volume
    • Plates ending in 0 & 1 are off the roads on Mondays, 2 & 3 are off the roads on Tuesdays, etc.)
  • Navigational apps such as Waze and Google Maps are available to get around the major towns and cities.
